DecoristIn the spring, I had a conversation with a good friend about how the interior design industry has changed recently given the popularity of sites like Houzz and Pinterest. What used to be an intimate face-to-face process has become something that can now take place virtually. Interior designers do not need to walk into your house in order to style a room, they can do it all remotely, and I love this.

Just days after having this discussion, Decorist reached out asking to do a collaboration. I went to their site and was immediately sold. I spent ages and ages looking through the design inspiration, and learning about how the design process works.

It’s pretty simple. If you want to get a professional makeover, go to the homepage and then click the pink ‘Get a Makeover’ button in the top left hand corner. Then you’re prompted to pick a level (Classic, Elite or Celebrity), which is based off the experience of the designer you’re paired with. I went with the Classic makeover, and I was paired with Audrey Dyer, who was actually my sorority sister (tiny world, right?).

I then filled out information about the space I wanted re-designed (our entry/living room), as well as style profile. I attached photos of the space, and then waited on the designs from Audrey. When I received them shortly after, I was so incredibly pleased. I mentioned in my request that I didn’t want to buy new ‘big pieces,’ like our entryway table, couches, rug, or coffee tables, but I would love to create a more cohesive feel to the space, as it’s very open concept and currently feels disconnected. Audrey’s two designs are gorgeous. She is seriously so talented. In addition to sending the collages using the actual pieces from our room, there are links to the items she included in the room concepts so I can buy them directly. It’s so smart (and convenient!).

Next, I am to pick between the two design concepts. But I’m torn, so I need your help/feedback. Concept 1 or 2 – which do you prefer?

Solution BoardFor Concept 1, Audrey wrote: In this first design concept, the bright greens and aqua blues of your fig tree and gorgeous painting are highlighted in the additional art and textiles. A darling striped dog bed livens up the far corner, while two colorful abstracts (shown top right) give the dining nook a large-scale focal point to help fill the wall space. I’ve also included an aqua painting with hints of earth tones on your shopping list that would look wonderful in this spot as well. Glassy lamps and a round mirror create a new entry vignette and help balance out the rustic texture and geometric angles of the console table. A tray on the coffee table provides a spot to corral remotes and miscellany, and vibrant pillows balance out the masculine leather sofas in style.

In the dining area, the art collection is expanded into a beautiful gallery of pieces with similar palettes and mediums – you can keep adding to the collection over the years with your own finds and family photos. Navy textiles and gourd lamps round out the look, giving the room a dose of depth and sophistication.

I love them both! Let me know which you would choose in the comments below!

I love the gallery wall too! I am such a fan of them – we’ve got a few in our house, but most have photos and not prints, so it would be a nice change. xo
