beautycounterfacts

A few months ago, I heard about Beautycounter through one of my best friend’s friend, Kelsey Wiley. I was intrigued by this company that “puts your health first” – not a claim I’d ever heard made by MAC, Maybelline, L’Oreal, Laura Mercier, etc. Kelsey included a link to the video below, and after watching it, I knew I wanted to try Beautycounter’s products.

Beautycounter’s mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone and lead a movement for better beauty. This is definitely a mission I can stand behind. While over 1,300 toxic ingredients are banned in personal care products in Europe, only eleven are in the US. Isn’t that scary? I had absolutely no idea which (potentially harmful) ingredients were in my skincare products, and I was ready to change that.

I will not lie – changing my tried-and-true makeup and skincare routine has not been painless. I had been using some of the same products since I was in high school! For about a month now, I’ve been using a majority of Beautycounter products (sharing honest reviews of each below), while ‘cheating’ every now and again with an old blush or eyeshadow that I love. As time goes on, I’ll buy more and more Beautycounter items when my old ones run out. So far, I’ve loved every single product – except the mascara, but I’ll explain why!

Do you want to know more? Kelsey would love to share more about Beautycounter’s mission and products with you and will be hosting a “Meet Beautycounter” event this Thursday evening from 8-9pm on Facebook. It will be quick, informative, allow you to ask her questions and attending and participating will get you entered for a giveaway! To join in, just follow this link and click “going.”

PLUS, everyone who participates in the event will be entered into a giveaway for one Purifying Charcoal Mask (courtesy of Kelsey – it’s one of her favorite products!). You’ll get one entry for entering the event and another for asking a question.

Honest Review on Beautycounter products I’ve bought:

Tint Skin in Linen: This is probably my favorite of all the Beautycounter products. It was recently voted one of the 9 Most Hydrating Tinted Moisturizers on the market by Allure, and I completely agree. It goes on smoothly and has great coverage.

Touchup Skin Concealer Pen in Light: I love the liquid pen applicator, which is easy to pump up with a few clicks. It is great for undereye coverage, which is something I need a lot of these days!

Color Shade Eye Duo in Shell/Malt and Pearl/Champagne: The dual colors of the eyeshadows are perfect compliments, which makes it easy for someone who is eyeshadow-challenged to figure out how to pair two together. I love the Pearl/Champagne set the most! I use it almost daily for something to help my eyes ‘pop’ but not being too makeup-y.

Lengthening Mascara: This is the only Beautycounter item that I returned. I am currently mourning the loss of Latisse, given that I can’t use it while I’m pregnant, and so I really rely on my Maybelline Falsies mascara to give me that extra length. I didn’t feel like I saw that with this mascara, but I’ll be open to buying it again if they introduce any other versions!

Precision Brush: This brush is perfect for spreading eyeshadow across your lids and also doing creases – you’d probably want a bigger brush for fancier looks. Like I said earlier, I’m eyeshadow-challenged, so this one is perfect for my needs.

Color Sweep Blush Duo in Tawny/Whisper: I have been using MAC Orgasm blush for years – like since freshman year of high school. So changing up blush has been a challenge for me. I do love this Beautycounter version, which I’ve been using every day, but would be lying if I said I didn’t sneak a swipe or two of my MAC version every now and again.

Mattify Skin Finishing Powder: I have not been a big finishing powder person in the past, but I’m converted. I love this finishing powder, as it makes my shiny face look so much more matte and I love how it looks.

Lip Sheer in Twig (not pictured): Okay, this is maybe my second favorite product, and it doesn’t leave my purse (hence not in the photos) because I use it all of the time. It’s the perfect color that isn’t glossy, but not matte, and provides the perfect amount of coverage. I love the Twig color too! Totally a new favorite.

Protect All Over Sunscreen (not pictured): Kelsey kindly gifted this sunscreen to me, and I wear it everyday. I should probably have mentioned by now that I have super sensitive skin, but this sunscreen doesn’t get into my pores and cause breakouts like most others do. I highly recommend buying this product.

Cleansing Balm: I received a sample of the cleansing balm, and once I get through my Goop equivalent, I’ll be ordering it again because I love how seamlessly it removes your makeup and leaves your face feeling moisturized.

Note: I purchased for these products myself and am not being compensated for this post. All of the opinions are truthful and my own.

  1. This is so awesome to read, I’ve been wondering about this brand. I need to try that moisturizer that was voted by Allure ASAP. For mascara, try Juice Beauty – I really like it a lot and it’s organic which I love, meaning the ingredients aren’t the scary, non-pronounceable kind. I was skeptical at first but I’ve started using the Juice mascara almost every day! xx
