Favorite Looks of the Week

I really missed out by not getting a pink pea coat this winter, and I’m reminded of that this week with Rachel’s gorgeous pale pink jacket. That was definitely my favorite trend of the season. Fortunately, I’m not too concerned with something being ‘so last season’ and may buy one now, even though it’s already feeling like spring in Houston. I love getting jackets and boots around this time of year on sale and having it feel like I’m getting a present when they’re worn for the first time in November. I found a handful of gorgeous pink coats, some a tad more expensive and some reasonably priced on sale. Which is your favorite? Of course, I gravitate towards a pricier option, but this BOSS coat from Harrods is classy and simple and ohmygosh…. seriously adore.

I absolutely love all of the white lace popping up on blogs this week, like Julia Engel’s little white lacy number and the more casual dresses worn by Jessica of Tuula Vintage and Samantha of Could I Have That?

Last week, Jenny of Jenny Journey mentioned the fashion blogger Arielle of Something Navy. I’ve featured her in the past (here, here, here and here) – she has incredible style. Jenny (who is close friends with my beautiful SIL) said that she looks like Ivana and our cousin, Natalia. It’s insane how similar they look. I once took a screenshot of Arielle and sent it to Natalia, and even she thought it was crazy how much they resembled each other! I want a beautiful doppleganger like that! Is there anyone that people say you look like? I’d love to know. I used to get told Brittany Snow when John Tucker Must Die and Pitch Perfect came out, but I honestly don’t see it at all!

Also, which is your favorite look this week? I would never be able to pull them off, but Chiara and her glittery blue shoes may win. She pulls of casual cool so well.

Favorite Looks of the Week

Thank goodness it’s Friday! Seriously. This week has been very busy with Serbian Christmas Eve church service in Galveston, a very festive Serbian Christmas celebration and planning a wedding shower at our house in two weeks, and I’m so ready to have Sasha at home to help this weekend. With that said, we’re heading to Austin for a day trip to celebrate his cousin’s Slava (a celebration of one’s Saint – described on the blog a few years ago here). Our house might have Christmas decorations up for quite a bit longer at this rate!

It’s cold in Texas right now (well, Texas cold… which is 40 degrees), so I need as much layering fashion inspiration as possible. My two favorite looks this week are Blaire Eadie’s and Julia Engel’s – these ladies can do no wrong. The other eight in my top ten are spot-on too. Which look is your favorite? Do you have big weekend plans?

Favorite Looks of the Week

It finally feels like fall in Houston, so seeing fashion bloggers donning trench coats and thick jackets no longer makes me jealous. Although we’re not quite there yet, I did have to wear a jacket on our evening family walk last night, so I’m excited.

My favorite look this week is definitely Blair Eadie’s bow-centric outfit. Those sequin pants? Those are absolutely incredible.

Which is your favorite look?

Sweet Summery Guacamole Recipe

I am an avocado fanatic – I could eat them all day long, so naturally, I love guacamole. The local grocery store in Durango recently had a sale on avocados – 10 for $10, which is a steal. We bought 10 and then realized they would go bad before we managed to eat them all, as we’ve been adventuring to different restaurants for dinner in the evening. I decided to make my signature guacamole dish, which is sweet and salty, given that I use Robert’s Reserve Roasted Red Pepper and Onion Dip and sea salt. This dip is very summery, given it’s slight sweetness. Depending on whom I am making the guacamole for, I’ll add cilantro to the top or jalapeños – enjoy with Stacy’s pita chips (Sasha’s favorite), or celery and carrots if you’re being healthy like I am right now!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of Robert’s Reserve Roasted Red Pepper and Onion Dip
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1/8 cup of red onions
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 jalapeño pepper (optional garnish)
  • Handful of chopped cilantro (optional garnish)

Steps

  1. Finely chop 2 garlic cloves and 1/8 cup of red onions and add to mixing bowl
  2. Add 2 tablesppons of the roasted pepper and onion dip (in most grocery stores in a stand alone section near the deli)
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to the bowl and mix
  4. Add 1 teaspoon of sea salt to the bowl – keep out in case you want to add more later
  5. Pit and add three avocados to the bowl – ideal to use a mortar and pestle (I love this Le Creuset one!)
  6. Mix well and add additional salt if desired
