‘Crazy For Commons’ Wedding Shower

As I mentioned on Monday, we threw a couple’s wedding shower for two of our good friends this weekend (see their Paris engagement photos here). There were six other wonderful hostesses (all college friends), and I loved getting to meet and spend time with these ladies. Amanda and I met in high school, and we have been friends ever since. She is genuinely so sweet, and I cannot wait to celebrate her and Scott’s wedding in a couple of months.

We ordered the shower invitations from Paperless Post and used hot pink envelopes from Paper Source. We stamped these colorful invitations with my favorite vintage seed stamps, which are now retired. We decided to avoid a theme per se, but the invitations being pink, gold and white, led us to decorate the house similarly. I’ve linked most of the decorations to their sources at the bottom of this post.

Amanda looked like a real life Barbie at the shower (photographic evidence below), wearing a stunning white 5th and Mercer dress from Shopbop. You’ll recognize the dress from Erin Gates’ blog post about her visit to Houston, and you might recognize the girl standing beside Erin too!

My very talented mum made a naked Funfetti cake, which I topped with flowers from our florist (and friend) Jess Hamilton. We ordered catering from Central Market, and the hostesses brought cupcakes, sausage balls, and salads as well. We had a bartender, which was a life saver, as we all wanted to party with the guests and not be stuck pouring wine all evening!

I definitely think one of the biggest hits was the Fuji Instax camera. Although we ran out of film at the end of the night (apparently 80 photos for 67 guests was not enough!), tons of great photos were added to the bright pink guest book (which I found at Michaels). I didn’t take more than a handful of pictures with my DSLR once guests arrived, but am glad I snapped some during the day while we were setting up and that we have polaroids to remember all of the fun that took place. It was a great evening and we’re definitely #crazyforcommons.

Sasha’s MBA Graduation Announcements

Today, my husband graduates from The University of Texas at Austin – McCombs School of Business with a Master of Business Administration. It feels like yesterday that I posted this acceptance post (June 28, 2012 – “my boyfriend”!). He has spent so much time and effort after work studying, doing homework, having late night study groups calls, etc. and then spending every second weekend (sometimes back-to-back) in class. Needless to say, it has not been a fun process for him, but he has learned a lot and says it’s definitely worth it.

The plan since day 1 has been that I would attend his graduation, but this week has been rather tough – my back hurts, legs hurt, etc. and my doctor advised me not go to Austin with only 2.5 weeks until our due date. It took lots of convincing from Sasha, my mom, and friends, but we decided the best thing for me to do is stay put and cheer from afar (and FaceTime!). I am obviously very upset to miss this milestone occasion, but understand the reason. I did faint in the car two weeks ago on the drive back from Austin!

For Sasha’s graduation, I designed letterpress announcements that I had printed by Czar Press. They were so great to work with. I did the calligraphy on all 50 envelopes (which took much longer than expected!) using Crane envelopes from Paperworks. We included a small square picture of Sasha and Belle, and I secretly snuck in a ‘Congratulate Sasha’ card with a pre-stamped return envelope (addressed to my parents – bought at Paper Source). I gave him all of his presents last night, including the notes we got back. He was very surprised, and we had a great time reading them – laughs and tears.

Congratulations, Sasha, I am so proud of you! I wish more than anything I could be there with a foghorn! Hook ’em!

Super Sweet 16 Balloon Invites

I am always looking for creative invitation or announcement ideas – a deviation from the standard colored cardstock. I have finally decided what to do for Isla’s announcements, after making the time conscious decision not go to the same letterpress + photo route for Sasha’s UT MBA graduation announcements (to be posted soon!), and no, it’s not a balloon! However, when I saw these super sweet 16 birthday balloon invitations on Oh So Beautiful Paper, I swooned. The balloons are so colorful, and I love the design by Cristina Pandol. I recognized Cristina’s name, and searched Snapshots and My Thoughts – low and behold, I have posted two of her previous projects before here. She is wildly talented – I totally love her style. Have you ever received a save-the-dates or invitation via balloon? Such a cute idea.

Glassine Envelope Announcements

I am ever-s0-slightly obsessed with glassine birth announcements. When I saw these on Etsy, I could not get over how cute they were!  I love the colors, liner, letterpress, and typography… but most of all, the glassine envelope with Liam’s sweet photo. I love the simplicity of glassine envelopes – and especially when they are sealed with colorful washi tape (good online selections here). Another cute example is here. Making your own glassine invitation or announcement can be simple! You can order envelopes here on Amazon. You can get a custom stamp made on Etsy or Antiquaria and easily print on them, or leave them blank and include them as an accessory to paper goods. Have you seen any cute glassine invitations or announcements before?

Photo + Stamp Save-the-Date

I super, super love Antiquaria. Their store is to-die for. All of the rubber stamps are gorgeous, as well as their entire collection of paper goods. I found this unique save-the-date on Oh So Beautiful Paper and thought it was an excellent DIY option for a wedding, or even for a baby announcement (obviously what’s on my mind now)! Antiquaria has a number of stamps (this is my favorite), even this baby one and this too!. The step-by-step instructions for the stationery shown below are in the post here. I’m seriously considering this for baby Petrovic!

I’m also in love with this clay DIY save-the-date. It’s such a great idea. I wish I were that creative!
