Happy Thanksgiving, y’all. It is one of my favorite days of the year. Sasha and I have done a ‘Tofurky Trot’ on Thanksgiving morning for the past two years (in lieu of the more popular and very busy Turkey Trot). We go to Memorial Park and run the trails there with Belle, and this year, Isla. We’re excited to spread this tradition to our newest family member who will one day run with us! We will head to my parents house around 11am, where we’ll eat with my family, plus Sasha’s sister and her boyfriend. There will be lots of food and tons of games.
Gift Guide for the Gadget Guy
Growing up, there was only one ‘gadget guy’ in my life – my dad. He has always been on top of the newest technology, and I think when he added sons-in-law to his family, this was an important criterion for him. So now there are lots of gadget-guys in my life, and I really like it (less research for me to do!).
Creating this gift guide was very humorous, as it involved a FaceTime session with my dad, and the men were just shouting out cool gadgets that came to mind. Then there was internet research, and more idea yelling. I feel very confident that this gift guide covers the coolest gadgets for 2014. It also involves some explanation, as I had no idea what half of these products were!
Gift Guide for the Hostess
With the holidays coming up, there are a lot of meals to be shared together with family and friends, and someone will inevitably be playing the role of hostess. I absolutely love cooking for others, and therefore, was excited to have our good friends over on Sunday for a Friendsgiving celebration. Since most of our friends don’t have children, it’s now easier to have people over to our house than to get a babysitter and go out to eat, so the role of hostess is one I’ll be playing more and more often.
Week in Review
Quite a few highs and lows occurred over the seven days – a low being that I got mastitis again on Wednesday, and a high being the quality time I got to spend with two of my best friends, McKenzie and Kirby. We hosted a Friendsgiving dinner on Sunday evening, which was so much fun. I have never prepared that much food before, and now feel I have to run out to West Elm to get more serving ware! We played Cards Against Humanity afterwards, and (no big deal) I won. Apparently I’m hilarious (kidding).
Other highlights include:
- Going to Sasha’s grandma’s Slava party on Friday
- Solids! Isla started solids – she’s had mushed apples, avocados, carrots and sweet potatoes (Mara, please help me! We don’t know what we’re doing!)
- Moving most of the furniture from our study into our master bedroom (planning a redo!) and created a playroom (mainly just a safe zone for Isla) – we’ve asked for this house for Isla’s Christmas
- Going to lunch with my mom and our sweet friend at Black Walnut Cafe
- Seeing my sister’s new town home – they are renting out the house they renovated (I shared lots of photos in the Dream Home series)
- Trying a new barre class with my friend Jessica at Life Time Fitness (I am definitely not a ballerina)
- Spending time with Sasha’s aunt, uncle and cousins – Natalia is in town from Los Angeles (has the best job ever at Disney) and I love getting to catch up with her
I hope you had a great week! What were your highlights?
Gift Guide for the Travel Lover
I’m very excited about going Christmas gift shopping and know that I need to get started now, as it inevitably takes longer than anticipated. Our family and friends are a good mixture of technology geeks, travel lovers, girly girls, hostesses, outdoorsy types, and music and art collectors (and others!). I love picking out creative presents for each individual, but know that takes a lot of time, so I’m going to help you this Christmas season with a series of gift guides!
