Isla Loves: Dr. Brown’s (Giveaway)

One of the things an experienced mom will tell you when it comes to bottle feeding a baby is that you need to have a number of different bottle brands for your little one to try, as the silicone nipples are different shapes and sizes and you don’t know to which your baby will take. We bought three brands, and Isla would only drink from her Dr. Brown’s bottles – specifically the pink Natural Flow ones. The internal vent system works to mimic a mother’s breast production (watch this video), and the only negative thing I have to say about these bottles would be that I couldn’t figure out how to assemble it the first time (total new-mom-brain!). We were also gifted the Dr. Brown’s bottle warmer at one of my showers and love it. It’s small, easy to store in a kitchen cabinet and quick to heat up a bottle for a hungry baby.

Dr. Brown’s kindly sent me a few other products to try, and I have to genuinely tell you… I’m a serious brand lover now. Isla absolutely loved the PreVent Contour Shield Pacifier. The contoured surface makes it easy for Isla to keep the paci in her mouth. I love all of the colors and designs that the pacifiers come in too.dr. brown's bottle pacifiers gia pillow nursing breastfeeding wipes review baby girl

Week in Review

We find ourselves in October, yet it doesn’t feel like fall in Texas. I am really excited about the prospect of cool temperatures coming soon. Sasha, Isla and I had a wonderful, busy week with many highlights, which I’ve outlined below (the first being my favorite):

  • This giggle fit (I’ve watched it on my phone at least 50 times!)
  • Visits from numerous sweet guests (lots of cute babies)
  • Isla passing her four month appointment with flying colors (58% for weight and 93% for length!)
  • First FaceTime session with adorable Simon (of Hook, Thread and Tinker)
  • Spending quality time with Sophee (one of my best friends who lives in Austin)
  • Much needed workouts at Life Time
  • A video shoot (more details to come soon!)
  • BBQ at Sasha’s cousin’s new home
  • Serbian Slava (party celebrating a family’s patron saint)
  • Eating out at our favorite places with friends: breakfast at Buffalo Grille, lunches at Local Foods and Counter Burger, and dinners at Empire Turkish GrillCarabbas, and Adair Kitchen (see all of my favorite Houston restaurants here)
  • Officially becoming Texas Exes
  • Bedroom furniture shopping at Restoration Hardware (i.e. design heaven)
  • Spending four hours at the hair salon getting my hair colored (it has been 8 years since the last time I had blonde in my hair!) and chopped – five inches off – I am still really on the fence about the whole thing though…
  • Retail therapy at the new Nordstrom Rack (reference above for why) and getting the cutest chambray tunic for Isla (probably not very comfy, but ohmygosh so cute – to be debuted soon!)

Did you have a good week? What did you get up to? Have a wonderful Monday. xo

Favorite Looks of the Week

This week’s Favorite Looks of the Week roundup is an eclectic mix of dresses, scarves and fall jackets. I am loving the two pregnant ladies’ styles this week – Emily of Ivory Lane and Samantha of Could I Have that? I also really love the classic style of Jessica of What I Wore – what a well tailored blazer!

In case you missed any of this week’s posts, see photos from my week in review, get the recipe for my delicious vegan, gluten free banana nut bread, read helpful tips for family photos, gawk at these gorgeous laundry rooms and practice your braids with these amazing tutorials. Best Braid Tutorials

My best friend, McKenzie, is a the best braider in the world. I, on the other hand, have spent the last 26 years of my life being completely inept when it comes to hair styling, After Isla was born, I decided that I really, really need to learn how to braid my own hair. After practicing every single day in Durango this summer, I can finally French braid my hair (a huge victory!). With Isla’s new desire to grab everything and hold on tightly, having my hair braided is almost a necessity. I’ve been watching and reading lots of braid tutorials to try to expand my skills, and after looking at a thousand different blogs, I’ve rounded up my favorite 9 tutorials for different hairstyles. Below you’ll see my attempt at Amber Fillerup Clark’s Upside Down Braided Bun.

Are you a good braider? Have you seen any other tutorials that you would like to share?

Dream Laundry Room

If you would have told me five years ago that I would one day lust over a laundry room, I would have thought you were absolutely insane. Now that we do one load per day for our sweet little one in our small laundry room, I get it. In our next house (or home addition… fingers crossed on this one!), I want a big laundry room with plenty of folding, hanging, storing and washing space. I’ve been saving lots of images of all white kitchens, then saw a gorgeous dark wood room and was almost swayed. I’m sharing my inspiration below! Which is your favorite? Do you dream of spacious, well organized laundry rooms too?

Ideal laundry room requirements:

  • Big, white farmhouse sink
  • Plenty of natural light
  • Large, interesting light fixtures
  • Lots of cabinets and shelving
  • Racks to hang clothing
  • Double washer and dryer (hey, a girl can dream!)
  • Subway white tiles for the floor or backsplash
  • Constant supply of gorgeous flowers or greenery
  • Comfortable seating (love the thought of a dual purposed room with desk space)
