Decorist Makeover: Your Opinion Wanted

DecoristIn the spring, I had a conversation with a good friend about how the interior design industry has changed recently given the popularity of sites like Houzz and Pinterest. What used to be an intimate face-to-face process has become something that can now take place virtually. Interior designers do not need to walk into your house in order to style a room, they can do it all remotely, and I love this.

Just days after having this discussion, Decorist reached out asking to do a collaboration. I went to their site and was immediately sold. I spent ages and ages looking through the design inspiration, and learning about how the design process works.

Happily Ever Woodward

This past weekend, one of my oldest friends (18 years and counting!) got married to one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met. Brittany and Aaron got married in Vail at the Sonnenalp, just a few hours away from where Aaron grew up in Denver. The weather was incredible, the scenery was gorgeous, and the bride and groom looked flawless. The wedding went off without a hitch, and my feet might still hurt from all of the dancing we did on Saturday night. The DJ was playing throwback hit after hit, and we found ourselves rapping to Eminem (super old school) and Nelly. What a night!

Brittany asked me to take photographs of their welcome reception, which took place at the Arrabelle. All guests were invited, which was great, as I was able to meet and catch up with lots of old and new friends. I am still daydreaming about Brittany’s Oscar de la Renta gown – it was perfect!

I was off-duty on Saturday, but obviously had to snap a few photographs of the bride and groom, as it normally takes ages for you to receive your wedding photos. The couple are off gallivanting in Italy right now, so I’m currently living vicariously through them. Cheers to the Woodwards! Europe (1 of 1)-126Europe (1 of 1)-131Europe (1 of 1)-132

Introducing Murphey Grace

Murphey Grace (1 of 1)-20 Last Thursday, I took newborn photographs for sweet Murphey Grace, whose Mom I was introduced to by a friend, but it turned out I had already met Morgan because our husbands were in the same MBA class at The University of Texas. Not to mention she went to college with my friend, Danielle, and played volleyball in high school with my cousin, Natalia. Smallest world ever, right?

Murphey was a little angel during the shoot, and didn’t even make a peep when her dad tried to pose her in one of his cowboy boots! That baby girl was over 10 pounds at birth, and she was not sliding into any leather shoe! Ha.

Izzy, their dog, was the perfect co-model. Belle was not having it during our newborn shoot with Isla, but Izzy just sat there and ‘smiled.’ Aren’t Izzy and Murphey just adorable? I’ve got a few newborn shoots lined up when I get back from Colorado – already excited about them! If you’ve got any pregnant friends in Houston, send them my way, please!

Week in Review

CoverHello from my parent’s house in Durango, Colorado! I arrived here yesterday afternoon after spending the weekend in Vail, celebrating one of my oldest friend’s weddings. Brittany was one of the first people I befriended when I moved to Texas from Scotland in 3rd grade. I adore her and her new husband, Aaron, and had the best time showering them with love over the last few days. Sasha flew home to Houston after the wedding, and I met my parents and Isla in Durango, where we spent over two months last summer (I have missed it so much). We’re going to spend a few weeks here, which I’m looking forward to (Texas summers are something else!).

Prior to flying to Vail on Friday, we had a very busy week in Houston. I was fortunate enough to have photo shoots every single day (two on Monday!) – more photos to come later this week (also shared a few last week). It did, however, make for many late nights, as I’m OCD about a quick turnaround for editing. I am currently editing photographs from Brittany and Aaron’s rehearsal, and I’ll post those soon. You’ll see a few below – and will likely fall in love with her black and white Oscar de la Renta dress (recently worn by T. Swiftnbd, right?).

Some of the week’s highlights included:

  • Photographing two baby boys, David and Brooks, on Monday – I shared their photos here last week. They are both insanely cute, and their mamas are sweet to boot.
  • Celebrating Cake & Confetti‘s second “birthday” with Meredith and other incredibly talented Houston ladies – I cannot wait to share photos later on! More details here.
  • Shooting more looks for my gorgeous friend’s new fashion blog – Feather Thread. We found some cool spots at City Centre, and I’m anxious to photograph more outfits when we get back home.
  • Meeting and photographing the cutest baby girl, Murphey Grace, whose parents we have about ten connections to. The world is so small! I’m going to share her photos tomorrow.
  • Chatting with Leah of The Monogram Shop (she’s the sweetest) and picking up Isla’s adorable monogrammed dress, which I shared on Friday.
  • Relaxing at the Sonnenalp hotel – our room was one of the coolest I’ve ever stayed in, as I loved the decor and the fact it was a two-story room. I highly recommend staying there if you are ever visiting Vail!

How was your week? Please tell me some of your highlights in the comments below! xo

Gift Ideas for a 1 Year Old Girl

GiftIdeas1yearoldWith almost three weeks passing since Isla turned one, we’ve now gotten to use many of the wonderful gifts that she received on her birthday. She is one lucky lady to have been spoiled rotten by family and friends. We got cute clothes, learning toys, plush stuffed animals and “bay-beeees.” I’ve had a few people ask me what was most useful, as they were going to be buying gifts for a one year old girl (most gifts work for boys too!) and didn’t want to get a gift that would be returned or left in a box.

I’m sharing some of our favorite items today, but most importantly, I’d love if you chimed in with other ideas in the comments below! It’s always so helpful to hear what other mamas think!

Lastly, there are some important things to take into consideration before buying gifts is the amount of storage the family has. Do they have a play room with lots of bins for toys? Do they have a big garage where they can put a toddler car? If the family has limited space, stick with smaller items like books and clothes!
