Week in Review

We find ourselves in October, yet it doesn’t feel like fall in Texas. I am really excited about the prospect of cool temperatures coming soon. Sasha, Isla and I had a wonderful, busy week with many highlights, which I’ve outlined below (the first being my favorite):

  • This giggle fit (I’ve watched it on my phone at least 50 times!)
  • Visits from numerous sweet guests (lots of cute babies)
  • Isla passing her four month appointment with flying colors (58% for weight and 93% for length!)
  • First FaceTime session with adorable Simon (of Hook, Thread and Tinker)
  • Spending quality time with Sophee (one of my best friends who lives in Austin)
  • Much needed workouts at Life Time
  • A video shoot (more details to come soon!)
  • BBQ at Sasha’s cousin’s new home
  • Serbian Slava (party celebrating a family’s patron saint)
  • Eating out at our favorite places with friends: breakfast at Buffalo Grille, lunches at Local Foods and Counter Burger, and dinners at Empire Turkish Grill, Carabbas, and Adair Kitchen (see all of my favorite Houston restaurants here)
  • Officially becoming Texas Exes
  • Bedroom furniture shopping at Restoration Hardware (i.e. design heaven)
  • Spending four hours at the hair salon getting my hair colored (it has been 8 years since the last time I had blonde in my hair!) and chopped – five inches off – I am still really on the fence about the whole thing though…
  • Retail therapy at the new Nordstrom Rack (reference above for why) and getting the cutest chambray tunic for Isla (probably not very comfy, but ohmygosh so cute – to be debuted soon!)

Week in Review

Week in Review & Tour through Blogland

Isla’s four month ‘birthday’ was on Saturday. My word, how did that happen? She is killing us with her adorable giggles, but driving us insane with her rolling over at night in her crib (lots of going in and flipping her back over). She goes to sleep peacefully now, which is a huge blessing. We check the monitor constantly because we miss her (how insane is parenthood?). Isla coos all of the time… and does her fair amount of high pitched squeaking. She loves when we dance and sing to her (especially the alphabet and In the Jungle). She is way more engaged in books now and will grab and hold on firmly to the pages. She drools everywhere – so attractive! I am loving this stage the most – although taking photos is now a real challenge.

This past week, I helped a friend with her wedding stationery, applied for Isla’s passport, ran a ton of errands (yet still haven’t managed to fit in a pedicure), had friends over for dinner three nights, created a new gallery wall (design from Hook, Thread and Tinker – more below), met two sweet friends for lunch at Dish Society (love it!), went to Life Time and got my butt kicked in STRIKE! again, and fit in some shopping at City Centre and Highland Village. The weeks are flying by, and this upcoming week is full of doctor, dentist, hair appointments and visits with friends. I cannot wait to see Sophee, one of my best friends who lives in Austin and is in Houston this weekend.

Isla Loves: Rifle Paper Co. (Giveaway)

Upon returning home from Durango, my exceptionally sweet best friend bought me the entire In Bloom Book Collection, and I am obsessed. The covers are so gorgeous – I want to stare at them all day. So while this ‘Isla Loves’ feature is perhaps more of an ‘Ailee Loves,’ I know that my adoration over all things Rifle will definitely be passed down to my offspring (I mean, doesn’t she look like she loves the books?).

Week in Review

Week in Review

Week three in Houston has passed, and life is showing no signs of slowing down. This past week, we visited lots of family and friends whom we hadn’t seen in almost three months – some who hadn’t met Isla yet. I was talked into doing back-to-back classes at Life Time Fitness with a close friend, and my body is still recovering. Overall, this week had many highlights, which I’ve captured below:

  • I went to Anthropologie, J. Crew, Carter’s, Kendra Scott and Baby Gap – ugh, feels good to be back). I subsequently ended up at The Container Store again for more slim-fit hangers.
  • We ate at Ruggles Green and Mary’z – two of our favorite restaurants (see full list of favorites), and I went grocery shopping at Whole Foods for the first time in months!
  • The weather is finally getting more bearable, so I was able to run outside on multiple days.
  • After going to the Durango Farmer’s Market all Saturday, we decided to head to one of the big ones in Houston (and bought lots of Sinfull Bakery goodies)
  • We went to my parent’s house for lunch to celebrate my dad’s birthday (happy birthday!)
  • Isla went to church for the first time (Bayou City Fellowship) and behaved swimmingly! Thank the good Lord.

Most importantly, this week marked the official stomach-to-back-to-stomach rolling and consistent, deep belly laughter from Isla. The former has me slightly nervous (she’s now getting tied into her changing station), and the latter has my heart smiling. That sound is pure joy.

Week in Review

Our first week back in Houston has come and gone, and ohmygosh, I am exhausted. I was so excited about seeing everyone that I might have overdone it by filling up our calendar to its capacity. I was out pretty much all of Monday and Tuesday with food poisoning, then spent the rest of the week seeing family and friends and running errands (so much dry cleaning!). Highlights from the week are captured below:

  • Isla meeting my grandma for the first time (her Great Grandma, or GG)
  • Signing up for a membership at Life Time Fitness and working out for the first time in three months
  • Isla’s playdates with with Lillian, her cousins (Ana, Mila and Lazo) and Ellery
  • Going to The Container Store after many months apart (yes, I’m addicted)
  • Taking Isla into the pool at our friend’s house for the first time (in her sweet Honest Company pineapple swim diaper from Kirby!)
  • Receiving our first Teil Duncan painting – one of her Bulls
  • Eating lunch at my parent’s house with one of my best friends, Andrew, who lives in Boston
  • Hosting two of our favorite friends for a dinner and serving these vegan brownies
  • Going to church at Bayou City Fellowship after being gone forever
  • Isla learning to laugh and doing it often (the cutest sound ever!)
  • And last, but not least, catching up with my best friend, McKenzie
