I Went to the Woods

iwenttothewoods

One of my favorite quotes ever is from Thoreau’s Walden, which I studied in great detail during my American Literature class at The University of Texas at Austin. The theme of solitude and oneness with nature is evident throughout this literary classic, and whenever people talk about the forests or woods, the entire quote plays out in my head:

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Sasha and I are heading to my parent’s house in Durango, Colorado today for an extended Labor Day weekend. I cannot wait to go hiking, rafting, and exploring in this gorgeous town. I hope to come back much more relaxed than I am in my current work state!

What an incredible weekend. We arrived at Ft. Lauderdale airport Friday afternoon and spent the remainder of the day on the beach – drinking Acai Mojitos (consumed far too many…). We ate at Hollywood Prime, then headed to the Justin Timberlake and Jay Z Legends of the Summer concert. It was honestly the best concert I’ve ever been to, by leaps and bounds. It was at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, which is uncovered, so we were super hot (thank goodness I chose a black romper – nice and breezy), but danced like fools the entire night. The set list for the concert is here. Could you pick a better compilation of songs? We slept in on Saturday, then lounged at the pool all day (handstand contests for hours), then showered and met Sasha’s cousins for dinner at Sardellis. I got the burrata salad (which we had at the wedding), and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Sunday was a relaxed morning – we headed to the airport in the late morning. It was truly the perfect beach getaway weekend.

And we’re off again! This weekend, we’re heading to Miami for the Justin Timberlake and Jay Z Legends of the Summer concert. I’ve seen JT in concert a few times now, and he is amazing. I could not be more excited about this concert. And beach time. Much needed.

I’m in Austin, Y’all

I’m in Austin for two days for recruiting events – the benefits of having a break between projects. I forgot how much I love this place! I’m sitting in Dominican Joe’s coffee shop, where I’ll be meeting one of my best friends. I ran on Town Lake yesterday, visited my favorite professor (I’m guest speaking in his class today!), ate at the Flagship Whole Foods and G’Raj Mahal (awesome), and squeezed in a trip to my favorite TCBY in Texas. One lucky gal, y’all.
