cuteheads’ 3rd Birthday Party

Ailee_Petrovic_150812_4B3A4752

Last week, a few other Houston mamas and I celebrated cuteheads‘ 3rd birthday alongside our sweet friend, Esther (remember her #GIRLBOSS feature here?). Meredith made the cutest balloon arch, we had gorgeous furniture from The Foundry, precious monogrammed garment bags from The Monogram Shop, food from Green Plate Foods and florals from Something Borrowed . It was quite the party. Of course, last but not least were all of the custom dresses that Esther designed for each girl. I cannot handle how cute they all were!

It was definitely my biggest photography challenge to date, as shooting on manual with five kids under the age of four running around like crazy was not what I’m used to (how peaceful newborn babies seem now!). I had a lot of fun chasing the girls around for the shots though, and I hope I’ll be able to celebrate many more cuteheads birthdays to come!

Read Esther’s post about the shoot on her blog – the cutenesshere.

Haute Hippie Days of Summer

HauteHippieDaysOn Monday, a few of my good friends and fellow “Houston creatives” got together for a hippie styled shoot, and I had so much fun despite the 100-degree Houston weather. Sasha’s youngest cousin (and now mine too!), Kristina, was the inspiration for the entire shoot. Not only is she stunning, she is the sweetest person ever, and I love her boho style. I’ve been dying to photograph her pretty face for ages, and decided that we could pull together something really fun with flower-power, boho vibes.

Immediately, I thought of my friend, Britt, who owns Butter, to give Kristina the hippie makeup and hair. For florals and styling, I knew that Meredith of Cake & Confetti would knock it out of the park (and she did, obviously!). I adore the floral crown, but also the incredible arrangements – they’re just as I had imagined. Joy (mentioned in the #GIRLBOSS series here) gave us Priya jewelry, which matched the theme perfectly. We got most of the furniture pieces from The Foundry (new rental business in Houston – love them!), and I asked Jenny of A Fine Florish to write one of my favorite phrases on a fringed purse I found at Nordstrom.

We originally found a few hippie dresses online (featured below), which I absolutely loved; however, Kristina found “the one” while shopping in Fayetteville, where she goes to school. It is the most gorgeous dress, and I’m so pleased she discovered it. She looked like a goddess!

I am so excited about how everything turned out. We found a spot in Memorial Park, got to work and created a little hippie paradise. I had the hardest time narrowing down the photos – I wanted to share them all! So although there are about 40 photos below, know that I did exclude hundreds (ha!). A huge thank you to everyone to helped pull this shoot off! I love y’all.

Cake & Confetti Turns Two

Photo (1 of 1)-27Last night, I attended the world’s most perfect dinner party. Like flawless flowers, lust-worthy flatware, delicious food, tasty cocktails. Meredith, the owner of Cake & Confetti, knows how to throw a party. It is her job after all, and she knows what she’s doing. A group of her friends and fellow creatives got together at her house to celebrate two years of her being in business (did you read her #GIRLBOSS interview here?).

I had the honor of photographing the dinner, and of course, I immediately edited them upon getting home at 10:30pm (yup, I’m crazy too). I’m bursting at the seams to show the photos, but I can’t for now. I am able to share some of the photos we took a month ago to use as a follow-up to the big dinner party. Meredith’s creativity is endless. I love the 2 sparkler in the macaroons (although she did get slightly burned by the sparks!).

Get Crafty Workshop: Floral Crowns

Get Crafty Workshop (1 of 1)On Saturday afternoon, I headed to the owner of Baanou’s gorgeous (like jaw-droppingly perfect) house for a floral crown workshop, led by my friend, Meredith of Cake & Confetti (her #GIRLBOSS interview here). I’ve ordered three silk floral crowns now (all for Isla!), and I decided that I needed to learn how to make them myself, instead of continuing to buy them! Meredith had picked out the most elegant (and real-looking!) silk blooms, and we sat down with bubbly in hand and learned how to pick, place and secure the flowers around the wire. After two hours, there were 15 gorgeous crowns being adorned by an even more beautiful group of ladies.

I loved learning how to create these crowns (and not-so-secretly want to wear mine everywhere I go!). A tiny floral crown would be the best gift for a baby girl (umm, friends expecting babies, duly warned!) – and the larger ones would be perfect for a friend’s bridal shower or bachelorette party!

In addition to nibbing on sweet treats and cheese and sipping champagne, the workshop attendees were able to shop the Baanou’s racks – which were filled with the trendiest clothing ever, and I was slightly dying inside that Sasha has put me on a spending freeze for the rest of the month post-Isla’s birthday party (whoops!). The store is currently working by appointment only, and if you live in the Houston area, I highly recommend you call to make one asap (713.505.1347).   Get Crafty Workshop (1 of 1)-22

2014 Summer Reading List Part 1

I used to read a lot, but then I graduated college and started working and quickly, reading became a past time suited only for vacations. I read six books during our honeymoon to Bali – my favorites being Da Vince Code and Where’d You Go, Bernadette? Both books were total page turners. Now that Isla has arrived, I do not have a lot of free time; however, I have been reading books on my iPhone while breastfeeding, as page flipping is much easier than texting (unless you one-finger type!). So far, I’ve read four books – The One and Only by Emily Giffin, The Fault in our Stars by John Green, #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, and Love Does by Bob Goff.

The One and Only by Emily Giffin is an interesting read – especially for a Texas girl, given that the story is based in Texas and mentions The University of Texas at Austin (my alma mater) throughout the entire novel. The story is based on a sports editor, Shea, whose life is changed drastically when her best friend’s mother dies from cancer, her job changes, and she begins dating the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. There is an interesting (yet predictable as the story unfolds) plot twist which really freaked me out – I won’t ruin the plot line, but it’s perhaps the only Emily Giffin book that I wouldn’t recommend reading. I absolutely love her other novels – Baby Proof, Where We Belong, Heart of the Matter, Love the One You’re With, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue.

Cue me sobbing. A lot. The Fault in our Stars by John Green is probably not a good book to read immediately after having your first child. This story is about two teens battling cancer – a beautiful love story – but Sasha walked into the nursery on multiple occasions as I was feeding and found me crying uncontrollably. I kept telling him that Isla cannot get cancer, to which he completely agreed. Besides my hormonal self, the book is beautiful. What a moving read. I am not sure I’m ready to see the movie any time soon, but I would definitely recommend this book and will be buying the hardback book to read again in the future.

I decided to read #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso after Christie (of KiKiMac) recommended it. I flew through it and immediately decided that I need to create my own business. #GIRLBOSS is extremely inspirational – especially for those with an entrepreneurial spirit. The book outlines how Sophia grew Nasty Gal from a small eBay business to a multi-multi million dollar online retailer. #GIRLBOSS should be read by anyone who needs motivation to start doing what you love.

Loves Does by Bob Goff has definitely been my favorite read so far. This amazingly strong Christian lawyer tells a variety of stories about his life – all of which are unbelievable and had me both laughing out loud and sobbing. Love Does is one of the most inspiring books I’ve ever read, and Bob does a wonderful job tying his unique tales into God’s love for us. “Simply put, love does.” This novel is a must read.

I’m now reading The Vacationers by Emma Straub – I’m enjoying it so far. Other books I have lined up after include Wild by Cheryl Strayed and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynch. Do you have any good book suggestions?
