Favorite Black Boots

BlackBootsEvery year, I splurge on one new pair of boots. I got Tory Burch black ankle booties two years ago and tan DVF boots last year, and I wear them both all of the time (yes, it’s finally fall/winter in  Texas!). As I begin to make my Christmas list, I’ve been tagging some of my favorite black (abd dark gray) boots. I love the Tory Burch Jess Boot (#5) and the Sam Edelman Shay Bootie (#2 – only $140!). Are you a boot fan? Have you spotted any other cute options?

Collection of Coats

While it’s not quite pea coat weather in Texas, I’m heading to NYC this weekend with a girlfriend of mine, and I wanted to get a new jacket for the trip. I looked high and low to thoroughly assess my options, and ended up getting this J. Crew coat. I adore J. Crew so much – and their winter line is incredible. All of the bejeweled sweaters get me so excited.

I thought I’d share my other considerations. I liked the bright cobalt color of the other J. Crew jacket, and the professionalism of the 3.1 Philip Lim coat. Burberry jackets have always been my favorite, and this pea coat is no exception.

What are your thoughts? Have you been coat shopping this year?

Favorite Looks of the Week

Oh gosh. So many favorites. I cannot decide if I’m clearly indecisive, or if there really are a million gorgeous looks posted every week (or weeks – as I’m a little behind). I honestly would struggle to narrow it down from this selection if I had to pick one favorite, so I’d go for Sarah Vickers (Classy Girls Wear Pearls), Samantha Hutchinson (Could I Have That?), and Rachel Parcell (The Pink Peonies). Which look is your favorite?

Houston Weekend Travel Guide

williams-water-wallIt is no secret that I love Houston. After moving back to the city from Austin, where I went to college, I became an adventurer of my own habitat. I wanted to try every restaurant, see every sight, walk on all the trails, etc. I also love to travel to new cities in the US, and in the last 2 years covered San Francisco (6 times), Los Angeles, Boston (3 times), Miami, Portland, Minneapolis, New York, Denver, Durango, Dallas, Austin, Chicago (2 times), Oklahoma City, Las Vegas, Bozeman (Montana), and Washington DC. I would always have a fully packed agenda for all of these places, which included food, event, and sightseeing recommendations. I thought it would be fun to create my own Houston weekend guide (Friday evening through Sunday night)! Hopefully you find this list useful.

  • Take pictures at the Waterwall Park (Galleria)
  • Enjoy happy hour at Anvil (Montrose) – try the French 75! or go to Bar Boheme for a more relaxed vibe
  • If you go to Anvil, walk across the street and take a picture outside of Biscuit Home (#biscuitartwall on Instagram) and check out their gorgeous, slightly eclectic selection of home goods
  • Eat at Indika (Montrose) if you like Indian food or head to Benjy’s (Rice Military and Rice Village) if you prefer modern American cuisine
  • Head to Sprinkles for a cupcake or to Pinkberry (both River Oaks) for some frozen yogurt
  • Drive down Westheimer to Underbelly or Hay Merchant (both Montrose)

Voilà. There you have it – some suggestions for a “perfect weekend in Houston.” There are, of course, tons and tons more fun things to do in this city, but I had to narrow it down. Some additional items include:

Visit the Bayou Bend Collection

Go to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston

Run at Memorial Park

Do a Segway Tour of Downtown

Visit the Saint Arnold’s Brewery

Take a cruise down the Bayou on a canoe or kayak

Go and experience Houston’s Theater scene

Laugh out loud at ComedySportz

Take a tour of Houston’s underground tunnel system downtown

I am always open to suggestions and also would love to help you plan a personalized trip if you’re coming to visit the Bayou City. Please email me!

Military Glam

One of my favorite fall trends is “military glam.” I love the look of a pop of camouflage paired with a classy silk blouse and some high heels (especially these Valentinos). The key to wearing military-influenced clothing is to be minimalistic. The print is already very bold, so don’t try to “over green” yourself. Rachel Parcell of Pink Peonies pulls of camouflage stunningly here. J. Crew has some of my favorite camo pieces (a few featured below – numbers 3, 4, and 7). What do you think about fall style?
