Five years ago today, our sweet Isla was born. Time has truly flown by. It feels like yesterday, I was holding her for the first time at the hospital. And just then, I blinked and she was one. Soon after, she turned two, then it was three, and last year, she became our big four year old.

Sasha and I always talk about how proud we are of this not-so-little girl of ours. She constantly worries about others’ feelings and their happiness. Yesterday, she asked if she could have a piece of gum (her favorite special treat!), and asked if I wanted a piece too. I said “Yes,” but when she went to the pantry, there was only one piece left. I told her she could have it to herself, but she refused and bit it into two pieces. It’s a silly anecdote, but it’s a very real representation of how she is always thinking of others.

Isla loves picking out what she is going to wear for the day. She is very particular about the dresses she wears, but wants to make sure that she matches both of her sisters if possible. The winter is daily torture for both of us, since she does not like pants and therefore, getting dressed is not a bundle of fun. She loves accessories too, but I doubt she’ll ever want her ears pierced because I’ve never met anyone who is more afraid of pain than Isla is – she really, really hates needles (gets it from her mama!). She will absolutely melt down if she sees a speck of blood on her body!

Isla is the greatest big sister to Georgie and Emilia. She oohs and ahhs over and talks to Georgie in the most saccharine sweet voice ever. She is truly smitten with her new baby and has most patience than I do for her rather demanding two year old sister. She shares when she probably shouldn’t have to and very rarely complains about doing it.

She is easily influenced, most evidently by her new declaration that she does not like cheese (she loves cheese) because her best friend, Susie, does not like cheese. She wants to please those around her, which is both a good and bad thing! She loves her friends dearly, and every single day, after school pickup, she would get into the car and say, “Can I have a playdate with X,Y,Z today?”

Isla loves doing puzzles and is getting good at them too! She loves 100 piece puzzles, and just today, got a few new ones for her birthday. She enjoys coloring and writing the names of people she loves, and also has a knack for playing cards. She is always up for a game of Crazy 8s, Go Fish or Animal Rummy. This past week, she learned how to tally scores with the four ticks then a cross and thinks this is great fun. She loves hitting 5, 10, 15, etc. points now!
